Budget Shopping Craze Fuels Amazon Bazaar’s Massive Growth in Tamil Nadu

Chennai, May 14, 2026: Amazon India has reported a strong growth trajectory for its budget-focused platform, Amazon Bazaar, with Tamil Nadu emerging as one of its fastest-growing markets. The company announced that orders from the State have increased fivefold year-on-year, highlighting a significant shift in online shopping trends.

Chennai has been at the forefront of this growth, recording a twofold increase in new customer sign-ups. Other cities such as Vellore, Madurai and Tiruchirappalli have also contributed notably to the surge in demand.

Amazon Bazaar, known for its ultra-affordable offerings starting at ₹99, has gained popularity among price-conscious consumers. With features such as free delivery, easy returns and cashback offers across a catalogue of over three crore products, the platform is seeing increased traction across categories like fashion, home, kitchen and electronic accessories.

The demand growth has been particularly strong in Women’s Fashion, which grew two times year-on-year, followed by Home & Kitchen at five times growth and Electronic Accessories at 1.5 times growth. Popular products include sarees, kurtis, jeans, kitchen utensils, home décor items and mobile accessories such as cases, covers and chargers.

Commenting on the development, Sameer Lalwani, Head of Amazon Bazaar at Amazon India, said Tamil Nadu represents a key growth market for the platform. He noted a structural shift in online shopping behaviour, especially in tier-2 and tier-3 cities, where consumers are increasingly prioritizing value, variety and quality.

The platform has also seen strong seller growth, with the number of sellers on Amazon Bazaar doubling year-on-year. Tamil Nadu alone hosts over one lakh sellers on Amazon.in, including more than 1,700 associated with Amazon Bazaar, enabling local businesses to expand their reach nationwide.

To support this rapid growth, Amazon has strengthened its logistics network in the State. The company currently operates seven fulfilment centres, four sortation centres and nearly 1,600 delivery partners, ensuring efficient last-mile connectivity across both urban and rural areas.

Looking ahead, Amazon Bazaar aims to further deepen its presence in Tamil Nadu by onboarding more local sellers, expanding product categories tailored to regional demand, and extending delivery networks into smaller towns. The company reiterated its commitment to making affordable products accessible to customers across every pin code in the country.
