Chennai’s Ankith Gupta Becomes One of India’s Youngest GRAMMY® Members and Recording Academy Voting Members

Chennai: Ankith Gupta, a 22-year-old independent music producer from Chennai, has become one of the youngest Indians to be admitted as a GRAMMY® Member and Recording Academy Voting Member, marking a significant milestone in his music career.

As a Recording Academy Voting Member, Ankith joins an international community of artists, producers, songwriters, composers, engineers and other music professionals who participate in the voting process for the GRAMMY Awards, recognising achievements across different genres and cultures.

According to the Recording Academy, membership is awarded to accomplished music creators and professionals whose work has been recognised by their peers within the global music industry.

Speaking on the recognition, Ankith Gupta said becoming a Recording Academy Voting Member is an important milestone in his career and that he hopes it will contribute towards greater international recognition for Tamil and Indian independent music. He also said he plans to continue creating music while supporting emerging artists.

Ankith began producing music while studying in the seventh grade, creating beats on an iPad. During his teenage years, he earned a Guinness World Record for composing a song in 14 languages and also received recognition from the Asia Book of Records and the India Book of Records. He later became one of the youngest Indian hip-hop artists to feature multiple times in the iTunes Top 100 charts.

Over the years, Ankith has independently released more than 100 songs. One of his recent projects, “Thee”, a collaboration with Tamil artists Paal Dabba and Yung Raja, released under Think Indie by Think Music, crossed one million YouTube views and more than one million streams across digital music platforms. The track also remained on Spotify’s Local Pulse Chennai chart for over six months.

In addition to his own music, Ankith has spent the past two years working with emerging artists by producing original music and helping them develop their artistic identity before introducing their work to audiences.

According to the release, Ankith aims to promote Tamil music internationally through collaborations between Indian and global artists while continuing to mentor new talent and contribute to greater global recognition for Indian independent music.
