BIMTECH, Institute of Actuaries of India Sign MoU on Carbon Markets and Climate Finance
Mumbai: Birla Institute of Management Technology (BIMTECH) and the Institute of Actuaries of India (IAI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop professional learning programmes in emerging areas including carbon markets and climate finance.
The MoU was signed by Dr. Pankaj Priya, Dean & Deputy Director, BIMTECH, and Dr. Ruchita Verma, Executive Director, IAI.
Under the agreement, the two institutions will jointly develop and deliver two to three certification programmes over the next year, combining expertise in management education and actuarial science.
The first programme under the partnership is a Certification Training Programme on Carbon Credits & Carbon Markets. It is aimed at working professionals, corporate executives and sustainability practitioners seeking knowledge of the developing carbon economy.
The programme has been conceptualised and designed under the leadership of Dr. Prabina Rajib, Director, BIMTECH. She will also lead sessions covering global carbon markets, including the EU Emissions Trading System (EU-ETS), Perform, Achieve & Trade (PAT), Energy Saving Certificates (ESCerts), CORSIA and Carbon Futures.
Dr. Prabina Rajib said the transition to a low-carbon economy is increasingly influencing business, finance and risk-related decisions. She said the programme would bring together aspects of carbon markets, finance, regulation and risk.
Dr. Ruchita Verma said the changing climate and sustainability landscape is creating new requirements for professionals with analytical and risk-management capabilities. She said the collaboration would focus on learning programmes addressing emerging professional requirements.
Certification programme from September 19
The Online Certification Programme on Carbon Credits & Carbon Markets will be conducted from September 19 to October 10, 2026.
The programme is intended for actuaries and actuarial students, finance and investment professionals, risk managers, ESG and sustainability professionals, policy specialists, consultants, corporate professionals and students interested in climate finance and sustainability.
The programme will cover concepts related to global climate frameworks, carbon market mechanisms, net-zero calculations, climate and sustainability risks, voluntary carbon markets and compliance frameworks.
The online programme will combine conceptual learning with practical applications, with a focus on the relevance of carbon markets to business and financial decision-making.
Through the MoU, BIMTECH and IAI plan to develop professional learning opportunities related to the global transition towards a low-carbon economy, with an emphasis on the opportunities, risks and challenges emerging from this transition.
