Chandrababu Naidu Lays Foundation for LV Prasad Eye Institute in Amaravati
Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday performed the bhoomi puja and laid the foundation stone for the LV Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI) campus at Abbarajupalem in Thullur mandal, Amaravati.
The institute is being established on 12 acres under the Sudha and Venkat Jasti Campus. The facility is planned to provide eye-care services to around 3 lakh people annually, besides undertaking ophthalmic research, training and community health programmes. An Eye and Brain Centre is also planned.
According to LVPEI, the first phase will focus on tertiary eye care, with patient services planned for 2027. Later phases are to include vision rehabilitation, elderly and child eye care, eye and brain health, education, research and community eye health.
Amaravati’s Healthcare and Technology Plans
Addressing the gathering, Naidu said the LVPEI campus would add to Amaravati’s healthcare infrastructure. He said the capital was also being developed as a hub for knowledge, research, healthcare and emerging technologies.
The Chief Minister said around ₹50,000 crore worth of works were underway in Amaravati, including road infrastructure, Sports City and a proposed international airport.
He also referred to the Amaravati Quantum Valley, where IBM, TCS and L&T are involved in plans for a large-scale quantum computing facility. Earlier government and industry announcements have described plans for an IBM quantum system as part of the project.
Naidu also announced that a Pan-IIT Conference would be held in Vijayawada on October 3, with IIT alumni and experts from across the world expected to participate.
Minister P. Narayana, Tadikonda MLA Tenali Sravan Kumar, LVPEI founder G. N. Rao and others attended the programme.
