MGM Healthcare Malar-Adyar Introduces Low-Dose CT Imaging Technology
Chennai: MGM Healthcare Malar-Adyar has introduced low-dose CT imaging protocols and deep-learning technology aimed at supporting earlier detection of cancer and heart disease while reducing radiation and contrast exposure.
The hospital has implemented ultra-low-dose CT chest screening and low-dose CT coronary angiography using optimised imaging protocols. Its CT workflow also uses Delta, a deep-learning-based image reconstruction technology that can produce diagnostically useful images from scans acquired with substantially lower radiation doses and, in selected cases, lower volumes of contrast.
The hospital said 133 coronary CT examinations were performed over 10 days using about 15 mL of contrast per examination, along with a low-radiation acquisition strategy.
Its ultra-low-dose chest CT programme has been used for 260 patients. Of these, 179 underwent biopsy based on imaging findings, with 54 cancers identified in the screened group.
Dr. Samuel Reefath J, Senior Consultant and Lead Radiologist, said the approach focuses on obtaining clinically useful imaging information with the minimum necessary patient exposure to radiation and contrast.
He said deep-learning tools can assist radiologists in analysing large volumes of imaging data, identifying subtle abnormalities and quantifying information to support clinical interpretation.
Venugopal Bhat, Chief Operating Officer and Group Vice President – Strategic Initiatives, said the focus of advanced imaging should be on earlier detection, accurate disease characterisation and safer diagnosis.
The hospital said the initiative combines CT imaging, deep-learning reconstruction, quantitative analysis and optimised clinical protocols as part of its approach to precision imaging.
