Renault Clarifies Ownership of Chennai Manufacturing Facility

Chennai: Renault Group has clarified that its vehicle manufacturing facility in Chennai has been fully owned by the company since September 2025, stating that references to the site as the “Nissan plant” or “Nissan factory” are no longer factually accurate.

According to the company, the Chennai facility manufactures vehicles for both Renault and Nissan, catering to domestic as well as export markets. Although the plant continues to produce vehicles for both brands, it is now owned entirely by Renault Group.

The company said the clarification has been issued to ensure that future communications, reports and media coverage accurately refer to the facility as a Renault-owned manufacturing plant.

Renault Group also stated that the Chennai manufacturing site remains an important part of its operations in India and supports its long-term plans for growth, localisation and exports.
