The Westin Chennai Lights Up the Season with a Terracotta-Inspired Celebration of Sustainability
The Westin Chennai Velachery has taken a different route by putting up a terracotta Christmas tree this year. “We wanted to draw attention to traditional earthenware while supporting local artisans.” The tree is made entirely of terracotta pots, hand painted with red soil while all other decorative are hand painted. “After the season, the pots will be repurposed for planting saplings, which will be donated and reused as artifacts.”
The iron frame which holds the structure is detachable and reusable, further promoting sustainability. “The aim is to create zero waste as possible.” We celebrate a vision that is shaped by countless ideas, meetings, and the incredible creativity of our team. Together, we turned a dream into reality, and for that, we are deeply grateful. Keeping up with the story of tradition and looking ahead to a better future, we sought to create something that would leave a lasting impact. This year, our holiday tree is not just a decoration—it’s a symbol of purpose.
These vessels are deeply rooted in tradition and entirely recyclable, reminding us of the beauty in simplicity and sustainability. With the skilled hands of local artisans, and through meaningful collaboration within the community, we brought this vision to life.
This tree represents our commitment to promoting a healthier Earth. It’s a call to inspire conscious celebrations. As we bask in the glow of this creation, let it remind us of the incredible things we can achieve when we work together and of the importance of carrying our traditions forward with care and responsibility.
Speaking at the event, Deepraj Mukherjee, General Manager of The Westin Chennai, said:
“This year, our terracotta-themed tree lighting is more than a celebration – it’s a call to embrace sustainability while cherishing the beauty of tradition. The earth element reminds us to stay grounded and protect the planet as we revel in the festive spirit.”
