Beyond Frontiers Trust Launched to Expand Specialist Healthcare Access for Tribal Communities in Tamil Nadu
Chennai: Beyond Frontiers Trust (BFT), a Chennai-based non-profit organisation working to improve access to specialist healthcare for underserved tribal and rural communities, was formally introduced at the MMA Management Centre in Chennai on Wednesday.
Founded by senior physician Dr. S. C. Chandilya, the Trust focuses on providing specialist medical care to remote communities, particularly in the Jawadhu Hills, where geographical challenges and limited transport have restricted access to healthcare services.
Reaching Remote Communities
According to the Trust, it has conducted 18 free specialist medical camps, benefiting approximately 4,000 people across 150 villages in the Jawadhu Hills.
Its healthcare initiatives include medical screening, early diagnosis, medicines, referrals, health records, follow-up consultations, and continuing care for patients in remote areas.
Speaking at the launch, Dr. S. C. Chandilya, Founder of Beyond Frontiers Trust, said the organisation aims to provide ethical and specialised healthcare services to underserved tribal communities and underprivileged rural populations across Tamil Nadu.
He said the Trust seeks to improve early identification of treatable illnesses, connect patients with the healthcare system, and support better long-term health outcomes.
Focus on Non-Communicable Diseases
The Trust’s medical outreach programmes focus on the early detection and management of non-communicable diseases, including diabetes, hypertension, thyroid disorders, polyarthritis, and asthma. Screening for cervical and breast cancers also forms part of its healthcare services.
In addition to clinical care, the organisation conducts health awareness programmes covering anaemia, nutrition, sanitation, and hygiene.
Dignitaries Attend Launch
The launch event was attended by Dr. Shobana Kamineni, Promoter Director of Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Ltd. and Executive Chairperson of Apollo Health Co. Ltd., as the Chief Guest.
The Guests of Honour were Jayshree Muralidharan, IAS (Retd.), Chairman of Srinivasan Services Trust, and Swaran Singh, IAS (Retd.), Chairman of the TVS Cheema Scholarship Foundation.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Shobana Kamineni said expanding access to specialist healthcare regardless of geography is essential for achieving healthcare equity. She noted that integrated models combining screening, diagnosis, referrals, and continuity of care can improve health outcomes in underserved communities.
Jayshree Muralidharan highlighted the importance of sustained community engagement and continuing care in improving healthcare delivery, while Swaran Singh emphasised that long-term social impact depends on clear purpose, transparent systems, disciplined execution, and strong partnerships.
