Student Housing Searches Rise 44% Across India Ahead of New Academic Session: Justdial
Mumbai: Search activity related to student accommodation, relocation services and academic essentials has increased across India ahead of the 2026–27 academic session, according to data released by Justdial.
The analysis compares search volumes between July 2025–June 2026 and July 2024–June 2025, indicating increased demand as students and families prepare for university admissions and relocation.
Among all categories analysed, Paying Guest (PG) accommodation recorded the highest growth, with searches increasing 44% across India. Pune registered the largest increase at 80%, followed by Chennai (49%), Delhi (47%), Mumbai (45%), Hyderabad (43%), and Bengaluru (41%).
Searches for Hostel Services also grew by 28% nationwide. Jaipur led with a 37% increase, followed by Chennai (36%), Coimbatore (35%), Delhi (32%), Pune (30%), Hyderabad (21%), and Mumbai (15%).
The report also showed higher demand for relocation-related services.
Searches for Courier Services increased by 20% across India, with Patna recording the highest growth at 52%. Delhi followed with a 42% increase, while Kolkata (32%), Hyderabad (24%), Kanpur (21%), Pune (19%), and Mumbai (18%) also recorded higher search activity.
Searches for Packers & Movers rose by 11% nationally. Chandigarh recorded the highest increase at 25%, followed by Delhi (19%), Chennai (15%), Jaipur (14%), Surat (13%), Mumbai (12%), and Bengaluru (10%).
Demand also increased for products and services associated with academic preparation.
Searches for Printing & Stationery Services grew by 14% across India, with Delhi leading at 21%. Kanpur, Kolkata, and Hyderabad each recorded an 18% increase, while Pune registered 16%, Ahmedabad 12%, and Chennai 11%.
Searches for Laptop Stores increased by 7% nationally. Delhi recorded the highest growth at 18%, followed by Coimbatore (16%), Chandigarh (9%), Hyderabad (9%), Ahmedabad (8%), and Lucknow (7%).
The data also highlighted increased interest in supplementary education. Searches for Coaching Institutes rose by 81% in Vadodara, 55% in Surat, 15% in Ahmedabad, and 5% in Patna.
According to Justdial, the search trends indicate that preparations for the academic year extend beyond college admissions, with students and families actively seeking accommodation, relocation services, technology products, stationery and coaching support before the start of university life.
