The Universal Health Code Book Launched in Chennai by MMC 1984 Alumni
Chennai: The Universal Health Code, described as the world’s first comprehensive “owner’s manual” for the human body, was launched in Chennai on Monday.
Spanning nearly 300 pages, the book compiles the collective expertise of 50 leading medical professionals — all 1984 batchmates of Madras Medical College — representing diverse specialisations.
The first copies were released by Dr. Ravi Pachamuthu, Chairman, SRM Group, and Prof. Mohamed Rela, Chairman, Rela Hospital. The copies were received by Dinesh Karthik, former Indian cricketer and Royal Challengers Bengaluru Batting Coach, in the presence of Dr. Vijay C. Bose, Joint Director and Senior Consultant, who compiled the book, along with representatives of Wings Publications.
Unlike conventional health awareness books that offer compartmentalised guidance, The Universal Health Code does not prescribe specific medical recommendations. Instead, it presents a clear and integrated explanation of how the human body functions. By understanding these mechanisms — similar to reading a user manual — readers are encouraged to make informed decisions regarding food, lifestyle and overall health.
Richly illustrated and written in accessible language, the book aims to simplify complex medical concepts for lay readers while promoting a holistic understanding of the body.
Speaking at the launch, Dr. Ravi Pachamuthu congratulated the contributors, noting that the book provides “a unified view of the human body rather than fragmented advice across specialties.” He commended the authors for dedicating their time to enhance public awareness, particularly in addressing the growing burden of lifestyle diseases.
Dr. Vijay C. Bose said the book was five years in the making and was driven by concerns over the rising prevalence of hypertension, diabetes and heart disease, especially in India. “This is the age of knowledge. People must understand how their body works so they can make informed lifestyle choices. It is one thing to be disease-free; it is another to achieve optimal health. This book aims to guide readers toward that higher standard of well-being,” he said.
The event also featured discussions on strengthening public health awareness and addressing lifestyle-related illnesses through informed and holistic approaches.
