Chennai: Global Polyclinic Launches Adult and Travel Vaccination Centre in Velachery
Chennai: Global Polyclinic has launched the Global Adult & Travel Vaccination Centre at Velachery in Chennai, with a focus on improving awareness and access to preventive vaccination services for adults and senior citizens.
According to the healthcare provider, the centre aims to address the growing need for adult immunisation, particularly among individuals aged 50 years and above, people with chronic medical conditions, and frequent travellers.
Medical experts note that while most vaccinations are administered during childhood, immunity against certain diseases may decrease with age, increasing susceptibility to infections and related complications. The risk is considered higher among individuals living with conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, lung disease, liver disease and kidney disease.
The centre will provide vaccinations commonly recommended for older adults, including protection against influenza, tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis (Tdap), pneumonia, shingles and hepatitis B. Additional vaccines may be advised based on a person’s age, health condition, occupation, travel requirements, lifestyle and medical history.
Healthcare professionals also point out that travel can increase exposure to infectious diseases due to close contact with large groups of people, changes in food habits and varying environmental conditions, making vaccination an important aspect of travel preparedness.
The facility will offer adult vaccination services, travel vaccination services, medical counselling for individuals with co-morbidities, and personalised vaccination guidance based on individual health needs. The centre will also conduct preventive healthcare awareness initiatives focused on healthy ageing.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. J Albert J, Founder and Senior Paediatric Consultant at GB Global Polyclinic, Velachery, said adult vaccination plays an important role in long-term health and wellness, particularly for people with chronic diseases. He added that the centre aims to support informed decision-making regarding vaccinations through personalised guidance and counselling.
Health experts continue to emphasise that adult immunisation remains an important component of preventive healthcare and can help reduce the risk of vaccine-preventable diseases among older adults and vulnerable populations.
