UNIFAI Robotic Multispeciality Hospital Marks First Anniversary with Free Health Camp for 52 Sanitary Workers in Chennai
Chennai: UNIFAI Robotic Multispeciality Hospital marked its first anniversary by organising a free comprehensive blood check-up camp for 52 sanitary workers from Zone 10 – Ward 129 of the Greater Chennai Corporation. The initiative was also held in connection with the 52nd birthday celebrations of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay.
The health camp was conducted at the hospital premises to provide preventive health screening for sanitary workers, who are regularly exposed to occupational health risks while maintaining public sanitation.
Camp Inaugurated by Singer and Actor Mano
The programme was inaugurated by playback singer and actor Mano, who attended as the Chief Guest and interacted with the sanitary workers.
The event was presided over by Dr. V. Surekha Sri, Maxillofacial and Hair Transplant Surgeon, and Dr. S. Sivakumar, Anaesthesiologist, from UNIFAI Robotic Multispeciality Hospital.
Focus on Preventive Healthcare
Speaking at the event, Dr. V. Surekha Sri said sanitary workers are frequently exposed to sewage, chemicals, sharp waste and harmful microorganisms, increasing their risk of developing various health conditions that may not show symptoms in the early stages.
She noted that routine blood tests can help detect underlying health issues at an early stage, allowing timely medical intervention.
Health Risks and Follow-up Care
According to the hospital, sanitary workers are particularly vulnerable to infections, respiratory illnesses, skin disorders, and diseases such as Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C due to continuous exposure to contaminated waste and hazardous materials.
As part of the initiative, the hospital said it would:
- Screen blood test reports to identify health concerns
- Provide immediate medical assistance where required
- Offer a three-month vaccination course for Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C
- Arrange specialist consultations and follow-up guidance based on individual medical needs
The camp aimed to provide participants with an assessment of their overall health and identify conditions requiring further treatment.
Hospital Completes 25 Robotic Surgeries in First Year
During the anniversary programme, UNIFAI Robotic Multispeciality Hospital also announced that it had completed 25 robotic-assisted surgeries during its first year of operations under Dr. U.P. Srinivasan, Surgical Gastroenterologist.
To mark the milestone, the hospital performed a free robotic-assisted surgery for a patient diagnosed with colorectal cancer. According to the hospital, the patient recovered well following the procedure.
