BMCE 2026 Begins in Chennai, Showcasing Broadcast, Cinema and OTT Technologies

Chennai: The Broadcast Media Cinema Expo (BMCE) 2026 commenced at the Chennai Trade Centre on Friday, bringing together professionals from the broadcast, cinema, OTT, content creation, production and post-production sectors.

The three-day exhibition and conference, scheduled from July 17 to 19, 2026, is being held alongside the 26th edition of Image Today Asia, a trade exhibition focused on photography, videography and digital imaging.

The event was inaugurated by cinematographer P.C. Sreeram, ISC. Guests of Honour included Manoj Paramahamsa, Chairman of the Tamil Nadu Government M.G.R. Film & Television Institute, cinematographer R. Rathnavelu, ISC, A. Karthik Raaja, President of the Southern India Cinematographers Association (SICA), and actor Ilavarasu.

According to the organisers, South India is home to three of India’s four largest film industries, around 4,600 cinema screens and more than 180 television channels, making the region a significant hub for the country’s media and entertainment sector.

The exhibition features more than 60 exhibitors and is expected to attract between 3,000 and 5,000 trade visitors over three days. Visitors can explore the latest technologies in broadcasting, filmmaking, OTT platforms and content creation through product demonstrations, exhibitor presentations, conference sessions and networking events.

Participating companies include Benchmark Broadcast, Canon, Disk Archive, Evertz, Grass Valley, Horizon Broadcast, Monolith, Nanlite, RED Digital Cinema and several other technology providers serving the broadcast and cinema industries.

The conference agenda includes keynote addresses, panel discussions and technical sessions covering topics such as storytelling in a multi-platform environment, election coverage, artificial intelligence in broadcasting, virtual production, visual effects (VFX), computer-generated imagery (CGI), the future of filmmaking, the growth of micro dramas and the evolving content ecosystem.

The event also includes exhibitor-led technical sessions on media storage, broadcast infrastructure, FM radio broadcasting and production technologies. On the final day, the Cinema Today Short Film Contest will feature screenings of selected entries followed by an awards ceremony recognising emerging filmmakers.

Running alongside BMCE, the 26th edition of Image Today Asia features more than 150 exhibitors representing photography, videography and imaging brands including Sony, Fujifilm, Nikon, Tamron, Sigma, Godox, SmallRig, Lexar and SanDisk. The exhibition also includes camera and lens service camps, workshops, live demonstrations, fashion shows and a felicitation ceremony honouring more than 60 industry veterans organised by the Tamil Nadu Photo & Videographers Association.

Commenting on the opening day, Divya Ravi, Vice President – Marketing, Buysell Interactions Pvt. Ltd., said the event had received an encouraging response from broadcasters, filmmakers, technology providers, students and industry professionals. She noted that the expo aims to provide opportunities for knowledge sharing, collaboration and business networking across the media and entertainment industry.

Organised by Buysell Interactions Pvt. Ltd., BMCE 2026 will continue until July 19 at the Chennai Trade Centre. On-site registration for BMCE is available at ₹200 per person, while entry to Image Today Asia is free for visitors.
