Rajalakshmi Engineering College Sets World Record with 1,000 Agentic AI Bots at AI NEXUS 2026
Chennai: Rajalakshmi Engineering College (REC), Chennai, created a world record during its AI NEXUS 2026 – An AI Tech Summit, with 1,000 students simultaneously developing 1,000 fully functional Agentic AI Bots in just two hours.
The achievement was accomplished through the “Agentic AI Botathon 1000”, where each participant independently designed, developed, tested and submitted a functional Agentic AI Bot. According to the organisers, the bots demonstrated capabilities including autonomous reasoning, intelligent decision-making, workflow automation and real-world problem solving.
The summit was inaugurated by Dr. Kumar R Tamil Nadu Minister for Artificial Intelligence, Information Technology and Digital Services. The event was attended by Dr. Thangam Meganathan, Chairperson of Rajalakshmi Group of Institutions, Dr. S. N. Murugesan, Principal of Rajalakshmi Engineering College, along with academicians, industry representatives and AI experts.
Addressing the gathering, the Minister highlighted the growing role of Artificial Intelligence in India’s digital transformation and appreciated the institution for providing students with a platform to develop AI-based technologies. He said such initiatives support Tamil Nadu’s vision of becoming a leading AI innovation hub and encourage students to become technology creators.
The world record was officially declared by Christopher Taylor Craft, Records Manager, World Record Union, after verification that the event had met the required international guidelines and documentation standards.
The official World Record Citation was presented to Rajalakshmi Engineering College, with Principal Dr. S. N. Murugesan receiving the citation on behalf of the institution in the presence of the Minister.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Thangam Meganathan said the institution remains focused on building an AI innovation ecosystem through industry collaboration and experiential learning. Principal Dr. S. N. Murugesan described the world record as a reflection of what students can achieve with the right guidance and opportunities.
Following the inaugural ceremony, multiple AI-focused events were conducted across the campus as part of AI NEXUS 2026.
The summit featured:
- AI Innovation Expo 2026, showcasing AI-based student projects addressing real-world challenges.
- CyberShield AI Challenge, an AI-powered cybersecurity hackathon.
- AI Conclave, featuring discussions by AI experts and industry leaders on responsible AI, emerging technologies and future careers.
- Animate with AI 2026, a workshop on AI-powered animation and storytelling.
- AI Marketing ShowDown, focusing on the use of Generative AI in branding and digital marketing.
- AI in Academia, a faculty development programme on integrating Artificial Intelligence into teaching and research.
According to the organisers, AI NEXUS 2026 was designed to encourage students to explore Artificial Intelligence through practical learning, innovation and collaboration while preparing them for future technology-driven careers.
The institution stated that the world record marks a milestone in its AI education initiatives and reflects the growing participation of students in Artificial Intelligence and emerging technologies.
