Appasamy Associates and Vision 2020 India Mark World Sight Day with Eye Care Initiatives in Chennai
Chennai: Appasamy Associates Private Limited (AAPL), in association with Vision 2020: The Right to Sight, India, organised a series of eye-care awareness and outreach activities in Chennai to mark World Sight Day 2026.
The programme focused on preventive eye care, early detection and timely access to treatment. It brought together eye-care professionals, volunteers and members of the community.
An Eye Care Awareness Video featuring former Indian cricketer and Vision 2020 India Goodwill Ambassador K. Srikanth was launched as part of the programme. The video highlights glaucoma awareness and eye donation.
The event also included discussions on cornea donation and disability equality, along with the announcement of the Lifetime Achievement Award and Guru Dronacharya Award by Vision 2020 India. A panel discussion addressed issues related to eye-care awareness, prevention and early intervention.
A human chain activity involving more than 350 participants was also held to encourage cornea donation. Participants included ITI students, AAPL and Vision 2020 teams, and 53 visually impaired volunteers from Nethrodaya Social Service Institution, Chennai.
The programme was followed by an eye screening camp, where more than 400 community members underwent eye screening and were encouraged to seek professional consultation where required.
Appasamy Associates CEO Senthil Kumar said the initiative aimed to encourage preventive eye care and regular eye screening for early detection and treatment.
Vision 2020 President Kuldeep Singh said the organisation used World Sight Day to highlight the importance of protecting vision and its mission of addressing avoidable blindness and visual impairment.
