Historic Surgery Saves 5-Year-Old Bangladeshi Girl’s Life

Chennai: In a groundbreaking medical achievement, Lifeline Hospitals in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, has successfully performed South India’s first-ever bariatric surgery on a 5-year-old girl from Bangladesh suffering from Prader-Willi Syndrome, a rare genetic disorder leading to extreme childhood obesity.

The surgery, performed by Dr. Anirudh Rajkumar and Dr. JS Rajkumar, has brought remarkable results. Within two weeks, the girl lost 8 kg, improving her breathing and overall health. Doctors expect a further weight loss of 10-15 kg in the next six months.

“This case highlights the growing crisis of childhood obesity and the importance of early intervention and holistic care,” said Dr. Anirudh Rajkumar. A multidisciplinary team approach will be crucial in ensuring the child’s long-term health and preventing complications.

Lifeline Hospitals urges parents and caregivers to take childhood obesity seriously and seek timely medical help to ensure children lead healthy and active lives.
