Honeywell and NTPC Green Partner for Sustainable Aviation Fuel in India
Mumbai: Honeywell and NTPC Green have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly explore the production of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) in India. The partnership aims to leverage Honeywell’s proprietary eFining technology to produce SAF from carbon dioxide emissions captured from NTPC’s power plants and green hydrogen.
Partnership Details
The collaboration will explore the use of Honeywell’s eFining technology to produce SAF, a critical tool for decarbonizing the aviation sector. This project forms a significant part of NTPC Green’s ambitious Green Hydrogen Hub in Pudimadaka, Andhra Pradesh, which aims to drive early mover projects in green hydrogen. The partnership supports India’s energy security objectives and underscores Honeywell’s alignment with the energy megatrend.
Quotes from Key Stakeholders
DMR Panda, Executive Director (Green Hydrogen), NTPC Ltd., stated, “SAF production forms a sizeable part of the ambitious Green Hydrogen Hub of NTPC Green in Pudimadaka, Andhra Pradesh. We believe that the mandate in the aviation sector for blending SAF in jet fuel will drive many early mover projects in green hydrogen.”
Ranjit Kulkarni, Vice President and General Manager, Energy and Sustainability Solutions, Honeywell India, added, “Our collaboration with NTPC Green will leverage Honeywell’s expertise in SAF solutions to efficiently treat emissions from thermal energy, foster green hydrogen adoption, diversify feedstocks for SAF production and help India’s aviation sector meet its long-term environmental goals.”
Impact and Goals
The partnership aims to support India’s decarbonization goals and help airlines meet their carbon reduction targets. The study, expected to be completed by mid-2025, will help India position itself as a SAF hub and achieve its emissions reduction goals. The collaboration will build a pathway toward promoting the production and export of SAF to other regions, positioning India as a SAF hub.
