His Holiness Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin Arrives in Chennai for Ashara Mubaraka Congregations
Chennai: His Holiness Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin, the 53rd leader of the worldwide Dawoodi Bohra Muslim community, has arrived in Chennai to lead the Ashara Mubaraka congregations. Approximately 43,000 Dawoodi Bohras from around the world are expected to attend the congregations in the city.
Ashara Mubaraka is a sacred period from the 2nd to the 10th of Muharram, dedicated to remembering Prophet Muhammad, his grandson Imam Husain, and their stand for universal values like justice, truth, and humanity. The congregations provide a spiritual and educational journey for the Dawoodi Bohras, focusing on faith growth and development.
The local Dawoodi Bohra community, along with government officials, has made elaborate preparations for the event. Various committees have been set up to handle accommodation, transportation, food, and seating arrangements. The event will be broadcast to nine other centers in the city, in addition to the central venue at Moore Street. This year’s congregations mark a significant occasion, with Chennai last hosting the event in 1975, led by Syedna Saifuddin’s father, Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin.
Aliasger Shakir, Community Outreach Coordinator in Chennai, expressed gratitude to the government and local authorities for their support and cooperation. “We consider ourselves extremely fortunate and are elated that His Holiness has graciously accepted our invitation,” he said, highlighting Chennai’s history of promoting inclusivity, diversity, and harmony.
