GT Bharathi secures World Trade Center license for Chengalpattu development

Chengalpattu: GT Bharathi (GTB) has been granted a license by the World Trade Centers Association (WTCA) to develop a World Trade Center (WTC) business in Chengalpattu district, Tamil Nadu.

The agreement places GT Bharathi within the WTCA network of more than 300 World Trade Center businesses across nearly 100 countries and territories. The company will develop a WTC-anchored mixed-use business township in the Chengalpattu region.

WTCA Vice President, Asia Pacific, Scott Wang, said the association expects WTC Chengalpattu to connect the region’s growing business ecosystem with international opportunities.

150-acre mixed-use township planned

According to GT Bharathi, the proposed WTC development will form the centrepiece of an integrated, IT-focused mixed-use township spread across approximately 150 acres.

The company has projected a development value of around ₹7,000 crore at full build-out. The project is planned to be developed in phases over approximately a decade.

The proposed township is expected to include:

  • Commercial and retail spaces
  • Data centres
  • Residential and luxury residential communities
  • Educational institutions
  • Hospitality facilities
  • A WTC business park

GT Bharathi estimates that the development could generate more than 1,00,000 jobs once fully developed.

Bharat Kanti Doshi, Chairman of GT Bharathi, said the company intends to develop the project in line with the standards associated with the World Trade Center brand and position Chengalpattu as a location for international commerce.

Chengalpattu to join WTCA network

The company said the project will work with WTCA members in the region, including WTC Chennai, to support international trade and regional economic development.

Badal Saboo, Business Lead – India & Asia Pacific, WTCA, said the addition of Chengalpattu would expand the association’s presence in a growing trade corridor in India.

GT Bharathi Managing Director Arun Bharathi Arunachalam said the proposed development is planned as a live-work-learn destination, combining business, residential, educational and hospitality facilities.

Land consolidation discussions underway

GT Bharathi said it is currently in discussions to consolidate a land parcel of the scale required for the proposed development.

The company has invited landowners with parcels of comparable size along the OMR corridor from Thiruporur onwards and along the ECR within Chengalpattu district to discuss potential participation in the development.

The proposed WTC Chengalpattu project is expected to be developed over multiple phases, with the masterplan extending across an estimated period of about 10 years.
