Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker J.C.D. Prabhakar Inaugurates Neuro Rehabilitation CME at MGM Healthcare

Chennai: Speaker of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly J. C. D. Prabhakar inaugurated a Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme on neuro rehabilitation organised by MGM Healthcare in Chennai.

During the programme, Prabhakar released a handbook titled ‘Restoring Function, Renewing Hope’, which highlights the importance of neuro rehabilitation.

Dr. V. R. Roopeshkumar, Director of Neurosurgery; Dr. A. J. Rajendran, Clinical Lead, Rehabilitation Medicine; and Dr. M. P. Kaviyarasan, Consultant Neurosurgeon, MGM Healthcare, contributed to the handbook.

More than 150 neuro rehabilitation professionals participated in the one-day CME programme. The participants included physiatrists, neurologists, neurosurgeons, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists and clinical psychologists.

The programme focused on restoring function, neuro rehabilitation and recent developments in the field. It featured expert sessions on stroke lower limb rehabilitation, neuro rehabilitation in the ICU, optimising pulmonary mechanics, stroke hand recovery, recent occupational therapy interventions, orthotics and prosthetics, brain-computer interface and advanced therapies in neuro rehabilitation, among other topics.

More than 26 speakers addressed the participants during the programme.

Speaking about the CME, Dr. V. R. Roopeshkumar said the programme brought together healthcare professionals to exchange knowledge, experiences and evolving practices in neurological rehabilitation.

“Neuro rehabilitation is a journey that requires patience, precision, compassion, and a strong multidisciplinary approach,” he said, adding that the programme provided an opportunity to enhance clinical knowledge, understand emerging rehabilitation strategies and strengthen collaboration across specialties.

He further said that continued learning and adapting to developments in medicine and rehabilitation can help healthcare professionals support patients in regaining greater independence, dignity and quality of life.
