SPR City Unveils 47.8-Foot Golu in Chennai, Attempts World Record

Chennai: SPR City in Perambur has unveiled a 47.8-foot-tall Golu featuring more than 4,500 dolls as part of its Navaratri Utsavam 2026. The installation is a world record attempt for the tallest Golu display, in association with the World Book of Records, London, UK.

The ten-day celebration features daily poojas, cultural programmes, music and family activities. The Golu display will be open to visitors until October 20.

The record attempt is based solely on the height of the installation. A 36.4-foot Golu created in Chennai in 2012 was previously documented by the India Book of Records. Recognition of the new attempt remains subject to official verification.

The 47.8-foot height draws inspiration from SPR City’s 47-floor residential tower, which the company identifies as Chennai’s tallest residential tower. The display features traditional figurines and representations of Indian culture and humanity.

The installation was inaugurated in the presence of Hitesh Kawad, Managing Director of SPR Group; Navin Ranka, Director of SPR India; Prakash Mohanasundaram, Vice President – Revenue; and Balakumar Chandrasekaran, Senior Vice President – Sales and Marketing.

Kawad said the display brings together themes of tradition, devotion, cultural heritage and community. Ranka highlighted the importance of human values, describing the initiative as a celebration of harmony, nobility and inner peace.

The Navaratri Utsavam is part of SPR City’s annual festive celebrations, bringing together visitors to participate in religious and cultural activities.
