Energy Storage, CCUS Measures in Budget to Support Power Sector Stability

The Union Budget 2026–27 has strengthened India’s clean energy roadmap by backing infrastructure spending and measures aimed at improving grid stability, according to Genus Power Infrastructures Limited.

Jitendra Kumar Agarwal, Joint Managing Director of the company, said the ₹12.2 lakh crore capital expenditure outlay provides long-term visibility for infrastructure and energy investments, even as the government maintains fiscal discipline.

He said the focus on battery energy storage systems is timely, as renewable energy capacity grows rapidly. Extending basic customs duty exemption on capital goods used to manufacture battery storage systems is expected to reduce costs and speed up deployment.

Additional measures such as customs relief for solar manufacturing inputs and the ₹20,000-crore commitment to carbon capture, utilisation and storage will further strengthen India’s clean energy transition and support industrial growth.
