GEM Hospital Launches ‘Dr. GEM’ AI++ Cancer Intelligence on World Cancer Day
Chennai: On the occasion of World Cancer Day, GEM Hospital launched ‘Dr. GEM’, an AI++-powered cancer intelligence chatbot, and announced free cancer screening programmes for pensioners and free second-opinion consultations for all cancer patients during February.
The programme was inaugurated by Prof. E. Hemanth Raj, Vice Chairman, Cancer Institute (WIA), Adyar, who underscored the critical role of early detection in improving survival rates and quality of life. He noted that nearly 100 people per lakh population in India are affected by cancer, with 35–40 per cent of cases linked to tobacco use, stressing that awareness and timely screening remain the most effective tools in cancer prevention and control.
Rtn. Balakrishnan, President, Rotary Club of Madras Central, attended as Guest of Honour and appreciated GEM Hospital’s integrated approach that combines technology, community outreach, and compassionate care to address the growing cancer burden.
Dr. GEM is an AI++-driven cancer intelligence chatbot developed by GEM Hospital to provide credible, evidence-based cancer information, enhance patient engagement, and support clinicians with structured clinical insights. The video-based platform will be accessible through GEM Hospital’s official social media channels, enabling wider public reach and awareness.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. C. Palanivelu, Founder & Chairman, GEM Hospitals, said that the initiative reflects the hospital’s focus on accessibility and trust, combining technological innovation with inclusive cancer care.
