MDRF Partners with Premas Life Sciences to Boost Genomics Research
Chennai: The Madras Diabetes Research Foundation (MDRF), Chennai, has entered into a strategic partnership with Premas Life Sciences (PLS) to strengthen genomics and multi-omics research capabilities in India.
The collaboration aims to accelerate scientific discovery and provide deeper insights into chronic diseases such as diabetes through integrated omics approaches.
As part of the initiative, MDRF will leverage advanced sequencing technologies from Illumina, supported by Premas Life Sciences’ technical expertise, to enhance its genomics research infrastructure. The partnership is expected to improve high-quality genomics workflows and promote innovation in precision medicine.
A key focus of the collaboration will be the joint development of research workflows, assays, and applications tailored to address India-specific disease burdens, particularly diabetes and related metabolic disorders. By integrating genomics with other omics disciplines, the institutions aim to generate comprehensive datasets for improved research outcomes.
The partnership also includes training and skill development programmes, such as workshops and hands-on sessions for researchers, clinicians, and students. These initiatives will help build expertise in next-generation sequencing technologies and data interpretation.
Additionally, Premas Life Sciences will support MDRF in facilitating industry–academia collaborations and expanding research partnerships.
Dr. V. Mohan, Chairman of MDRF, said the foundation remains committed to integrating advanced technologies with clinical research to better understand and manage complex diseases like diabetes.
Dr. Radha Venkatesan, Head of Genomics at MDRF, noted that the collaboration represents a significant step in advancing genomics-driven research in India. Dr. R. M. Anjana, President of MDRF, added that the partnership would help develop solutions relevant to the Indian population.
Mr. Praveen Gupta, Managing Director of Premas Life Sciences, said the collaboration reflects a shared vision of promoting innovation through multi-omics research and strengthening the scientific ecosystem in the country.
Both organisations will also undertake scientific outreach initiatives to promote the adoption of genomics in research and healthcare across India.
