Awareness on Accurate BP Measurement Highlighted on World Hypertension Day

Chennai: Observing World Hypertension Day, healthcare experts in Chennai emphasized the importance of accurate blood pressure (BP) measurement and effective management of hypertension to prevent serious health complications.

World Hypertension Day, initiated by the World Hypertension League (WHL) in 2005, is observed annually to raise awareness about high blood pressure, its risks, and the need for timely diagnosis and treatment.

As part of the observance, a day-long awareness programme was organised at Hotel Savera. The event began with participants undergoing three BP readings, followed by public awareness sessions on prevention, control and management of hypertension. A pledge campaign was also conducted to promote healthier lifestyles.

The programme was held under the aegis of Dr S.N. Narasingan and in collaboration with the Indian Society of Hypertension, Tamil Nadu State Chapter, led by Chairman Dr K. Kannan and Secretary Dr S. Chandrasekar, along with the Association of Physicians of India.

A series of expert sessions for medical professionals was conducted between 11 am and 1.45 pm, focusing on the latest clinical guidelines and advancements in hypertension management. The event saw participation from leading cardiologists, nephrologists and neurologists.

With this year’s theme, “Controlling Hypertension Together,” experts stressed the need for improved awareness, accurate BP monitoring and collaborative efforts to ensure better treatment outcomes and promote longer, healthier lives.
