North Carolina Highlights Yoga Retreats and Wellness Experiences Ahead of International Yoga Day

As countries around the world prepare to observe International Yoga Day, North Carolina is highlighting a range of yoga retreats and wellness experiences that draw inspiration from traditional yoga practices while offering visitors opportunities to connect with nature across the state.

Spread across beaches, islands, gardens and mountain landscapes, these experiences combine yoga, meditation and outdoor activities in different settings.

On North Carolina’s Crystal Coast, NC Coastal Life offers outdoor beach yoga sessions, including private and semi-private classes held at beaches, parks and vacation rentals.

In Southport, Rebel Soul Yoga conducts beach yoga sessions ranging from sunrise classes on the sand to dockside morning practice. The centre also hosts monthly full-moon beach yoga sessions.

At Village Yoga in Duck, visitors can combine yoga with swimming and participate in retreats, virtual classes and wellness programmes.

Yoga Amid Nature and Coastal Landscapes

On Bald Head Island, which is accessible only by boat or ferry and does not permit cars, Island Retreat Spa and Salon offers yoga, Pilates and barre classes, including beach yoga and outdoor sessions on its deck.

In Wilmington, Longwave Yoga conducts yoga sessions at Wrightsville Beach, Airlie Gardens and stand-up paddleboard yoga in partnership with Wrightsville SUP. The organisation also offers yoga classes on piers overlooking the Atlantic coastline.

Yoga Village organises sunset yoga sessions aboard the historic Battleship North Carolina, overlooking the Wilmington skyline. The organisation also conducts community-based yoga programmes at community centres, hospitals and shelters.

Hiking, Meditation and Wellness in Asheville

Visitors to Asheville can participate in Namaste in Nature, which combines hiking, yoga and guided meditation through locations such as Catawba Falls and sections of the Appalachian Trail.

Following outdoor activities, visitors can explore wellness-focused dining options, including Sunny Point Café, which serves meals prepared using produce grown in its on-site garden, with vegan and gluten-free options available.

Retreat Centre in the Blue Ridge Mountains

The Art of Living Retreat Center in Boone offers programmes focused on yoga, breathing techniques, meditation, philosophy and spirituality. Located in the Blue Ridge Mountains, the centre also provides pottery sessions and serves meals prepared using organically grown produce.
