Virginia Unveils ‘What’s New 2026’ Guide Showcasing Hotels, Attractions and Major Events

Richmond, Virginia: Virginia Tourism Corporation (VTC) has released its annual “What’s New in Virginia 2026” guide, highlighting new hotels, attractions, dining experiences and major events set to enhance tourism across the Commonwealth.

Among the biggest developments is the upcoming Kalahari Resorts & Conventions, scheduled to open in Fall 2026. The expansive destination will feature a 175,000-square-foot indoor waterpark, 900 suites and a large convention centre.

Virginia will also play a key role in commemorating the 250th anniversary of American independence, with programmes led by the Virginia American Revolution 250 Commission. Signature events include celebrations at Colonial Williamsburg and the nationwide maritime event Sail250® America.

What’s New in Virginia 2026

In hospitality, Massanutten Resort is expanding its indoor waterpark and adding a new 140-room hotel, while the Virginia Guesthouse is set to open in Spring 2026 with over 200 rooms and extensive meeting space.

Sports tourism is also set for a boost, with the Richmond Flying Squirrels moving into the new CarMax Park in April 2026, a venue expected to host a wide range of events.

New accommodation offerings include boutique and luxury stays such as the JW Marriott Reston Station, The Laurel Hotel and The Promissory Hotel, alongside unique experiences like wildlife retreats and upscale glamping.

On the food and beverage front, new openings include R Kohls Winery and Good Ship Brewing & Eatery, while curated experiences such as the Elijah Craig History and Cocktail Trail aim to blend heritage with culinary tourism.

Key infrastructure and attraction upgrades include the reopening of Brown’s Island, a new amphitheatre at Riverfront Park in Lynchburg, and the completion of the “Garden of Tomorrow” expansion at Norfolk Botanical Garden.

Virginia will also celebrate several milestone anniversaries in 2026, including 100 years of Colonial Williamsburg Foundation and Maymont, along with the 125th anniversary of Main Street Station in Richmond.

With a mix of large-scale developments, heritage celebrations and new visitor experiences, the 2026 guide positions Virginia as a dynamic destination for both domestic and international travellers.
