Apollo Hospitals Crosses 8,000 Robotic Surgeries, Strengthening Advanced Surgical Ecosystem in Tamil Nadu

Chennai: Apollo Hospitals has announced the successful completion of more than 8,000 robotic-assisted surgeries across multiple medical specialities, marking a major milestone in precision-led, patient-centric surgical care. The achievement establishes Apollo as home to Tamil Nadu’s largest multi-platform robotic surgery programme and one of the most comprehensive robotic surgical ecosystems in Chennai.

According to the hospital, robotic-assisted procedures have demonstrated improved clinical outcomes, including up to 50% lower blood loss, shorter hospital stays by one to two days, and faster recovery compared to conventional surgery, depending on the procedure.

Apollo Hospitals has developed an integrated robotic ecosystem featuring advanced platforms such as the da Vinci Surgical System, MAKO Surgical System, Hugo RAS System, SSI Mantra, and CMR Surgical Versius. The multi-platform approach enables surgeons to choose the most appropriate technology based on clinical requirements, procedural complexity, and patient needs.

Dr. Preetha Reddy, Executive Vice Chairperson of Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Limited, said the milestone reflects the organisation’s focus on precision, safety, and improved patient experiences. She noted that robotic technology enhances surgical accuracy while enabling patients to recover faster.

Sindoori Reddy, Director – Strategy at Apollo Hospitals, added that the robotic programme is built on selecting the right technology for each patient, ensuring consistent outcomes and supporting surgeons with advanced tools.

Robotic-assisted procedures at Apollo Hospitals cover a wide range of specialities, including urology, gynecology, general and laparoscopic surgery, colorectal and thoracic surgery, orthopedics and joint replacement, oncology, and cardiac sciences. The hospital stated that in select departments, 30–40% of complex procedures are now performed robotically — among the highest adoption levels in the state.

Apollo Hospitals has also invested significantly in surgeon training, credentialing, and continuous outcome monitoring, creating one of the largest robotic surgical teams in Tamil Nadu. To promote awareness of next-generation surgical technologies, the hospital recently hosted a public robotic surgery showcase, where medical students, healthcare professionals, and members of the media interacted with surgeons and experienced robotic platforms firsthand.

The milestone highlights the growing role of robotic-assisted procedures in modern healthcare and Apollo Hospitals’ continued focus on innovation, education, and advanced patient care.
