The Yoga Institute Marks International Day of Yoga with Nationwide Programmes Focused on Healthy Ageing
National: The Yoga Institute (TYI), Santacruz, Mumbai, observed the 12th International Day of Yoga (IDY) through a series of programmes conducted across India, aligning with this year’s theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing.”
According to the Institute, the celebrations involved participation from government departments, defence establishments, educational institutions, corporate organizations, airports, and online communities. Activities were organized in several cities including Mumbai, Chennai, Jaipur, and Bhubaneswar.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Hansaji Yogendra said that yoga can help individuals maintain physical strength, mental clarity, emotional balance, and overall well-being as they age.
Three-Day Online Yoga Festival
As part of the observance, The Yoga Institute organized a three-day online yoga festival from June 19 to 21. The programme featured sessions by ISKCON monk Gauranga Das Ji, nutritionist Ryan Fernando, holistic health expert Mickey Mehta, and senior teachers from the Institute. Topics included meditation, nutrition, stress management, and sound healing.
Community Yoga Sessions
A large-scale yoga session was conducted at Bandra Reclamation under the guidance of Dr. Hansaji Yogendra. The event was attended by Maharashtra Cabinet Minister Ashish Shelar and wellness advocate Terence Lewis.
Another yoga session titled “Yoga by the Bay” was organized at Marine Drive in association with The Times of India, Shaina NC, and Mickey Mehta. The event was attended by Union Ministers Anupriya Patel, Jitin Prasada, and Jayant Chaudhary, among others.
Outreach Across Institutions
The Yoga Institute also conducted yoga programmes across public institutions, defence organizations, educational campuses, and corporate workplaces.
Sessions were organized at the Maharashtra Mantralaya, CCRYN, Mumbai International Airport terminals, CISF units, the Indian Army, and the Indian Air Force.
Educational outreach programmes were conducted in BMC schools and colleges including Mithibai College, NMIMS, Chetana College, and Thakur College.
Corporate wellness initiatives were organized for organizations such as ONGC, SBI, Bank of Baroda, Mazagon Dock, Tata Care, and Macleods Pharmaceuticals.
Community programmes were also held in collaboration with various post offices and local organizations across Mumbai, including Borivali, Andheri, Chembur, Mahim, Mumbai Central, and Vile Parle.
Founded over 107 years ago, The Yoga Institute continues to conduct yoga education and wellness programmes in India and abroad. The Institute stated that it has reached more than 10 crore people and trained over 100,000 certified yoga teachers over the years.
