Eveready, Zepto Launch Battery Recycling Initiative in Delhi and Bengaluru
Mumbai: Eveready Industries India Ltd. and quick-commerce platform Zepto have partnered to launch a doorstep household battery collection and recycling initiative, initially covering Delhi and Bengaluru.
Under the initiative, users placing orders on Zepto will be able to select a “Return Battery” option at checkout. They can then hand over their used household batteries to Zepto delivery partners when their order is delivered.
The collected batteries will be sent to Eveready for recycling and disposal through authorised channels, in accordance with applicable environmental regulations and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) guidelines.
The initiative, titled ‘Batteries for Better’, is intended to make the collection of used household batteries more accessible by integrating battery returns with routine doorstep deliveries. Eveready and Zepto plan to expand the programme to additional cities in India.
Certificate and purchase benefits
Users who return used batteries for recycling will receive a certificate recognising their contribution to responsible waste management. They will also be eligible for special benefits on subsequent purchases of Eveready batteries through the Zepto platform.
Eveready Industries India Ltd. CEO Anirban Banerjee said the partnership would help increase awareness about responsible battery disposal and support circular economy practices.
Zepto Chief Business Officer Devendra Meel said convenience remains a key barrier to household battery disposal and that the initiative uses the company’s last-mile delivery network to facilitate battery collection during regular orders.
According to Meel, collecting household batteries through the programme could help divert battery waste from mixed garbage streams to authorised recycling channels.
