KS Balachandran: A Life Rooted in Farming

KS Balachandran, a 72-year-old farmer from Pollachi, has dedicated his life to cultivating the land his family has worked for generations. Initially considering an engineering career, Balachandran returned to farming in the 1980s, driven by his father’s guidance and connection to the land.

Balachandran reinvented traditional farming methods by shifting to coconut farming and implementing sustainable irrigation and modern techniques. He believes coconut trees are dependable and give endlessly, making them a reliable source of income.

Balachandran’s farming journey has been strengthened by his partnership with Marico’s Parachute Kalpavriksha Foundation (PKF). The foundation has helped improve farming methods, making livelihoods sustainable for future generations.

For Balachandran, farming is more than an economic pursuit; it’s a deeply emotional bond. He views his farm as a living community where workers, owners, and animals coexist in harmony, working together towards a common goal.
