Team India Departs for Global Skills Challenge 2026 in Australia Ahead of WorldSkills Shanghai
Mumbai: The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) on Monday flagged off Team India for the Global Skills Challenge (GSC) 2026 in Australia, as part of preparations for the upcoming WorldSkills Competition scheduled to be held in Shanghai, China.
The Indian contingent consists of 30 members, including 15 competitors and 15 experts, who will participate in the international skills event from June 23 to June 29.
Organised by WorldSkills Australia, the Global Skills Challenge serves as a preparatory platform ahead of the 48th WorldSkills Competition. The event is designed to simulate actual WorldSkills competition conditions, enabling participating countries to assess performance, test readiness, and gain experience in an international competitive environment.
The competition will feature four days of skill contests using the Competition Information System (CIS) for assessment and scoring. Nearly 600 competitors, experts, translators, and officials from WorldSkills member nations are expected to participate.
Speaking at the send-off event, Debashree Mukherjee, Secretary, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, said the competition would provide Indian participants with international exposure and help them prepare for the WorldSkills Competition in Shanghai.
Arunkumar Pillai, Chief Executive Officer of the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), said the event would serve as the final stage of preparation before the global competition later this year.
Senior officials from the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and the National Skill Development Corporation were also present at the event.
India will compete in 15 skill categories, including 3D Digital Game Art, Additive Manufacturing, Automobile Technology, Beauty Therapy, Bricklaying, Cloud Computing, Floristry, Graphic Design Technology, Hairdressing, Health and Social Care, Industrial Mechanics, Painting and Decorating, Restaurant Service, Wall and Floor Tiling, and Web Technologies.
The categories cover sectors such as advanced manufacturing, digital technologies, construction, creative industries, and service-based professions, reflecting the diverse range of skills represented by Team India.
