Logitech Report Highlights Challenges Faced by Women in India’s Tech Workforce

Chennai: Logitech has released a new research report, “What is next for working women in technology in India?”, shedding light on the challenges and opportunities for women in India’s technology sector. The report reveals that microaggressions, lack of early encouragement, and workforce barriers are significant obstacles to women’s advancement in STEM fields.

The report highlights that microaggressions are a major issue, with 44% of women surveyed regularly experiencing microaggressions at work and school. Furthermore, 86% have heard of a woman leaving her career as a result of misogynistic behavior. This emphasizes the need for creating diverse, inclusive workplaces through enhanced recruitment processes, allyship training programs, and inclusive policies.

Early encouragement is also crucial for women to pursue careers in tech. However, the report shows that only 49% of women surveyed received support from teachers, compared to 63% of men. This highlights the need for early exposure to tech through school programs and teacher training to address gender bias.

Workforce barriers are another significant challenge faced by women in India’s tech sector. Nearly half of women surveyed (49%) felt isolated while studying tech in high school, and 21% reported facing financial difficulties that hindered their education. To address these barriers, Logitech is partnering with Women in Tech India to provide mentorship programs, networking opportunities, and partnerships between academia and industry.

Logitech is committed to empowering women in tech and creating a more inclusive and supportive environment. The company believes that by working together with key organizations in India, it can provide mentoring and skill-building programs that connect young people with role models and equip them with skills to thrive in the tech sector.
