Tata Communications and EDII Launch Udaya Bazaar in Alibaug for Women Entrepreneurs
Tata Communications and the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII) have launched Udaya Bazaar, a retail store in Alibaug showcasing products made by women entrepreneurs and persons with disabilities (PwDs).
The store was inaugurated by Sachin Dhole, Additional District Collector. It is the first multi-speciality retail store established under Project UDAYA, a Tata Communications CSR initiative implemented in partnership with EDII.
The store aims to provide market access to grassroots entrepreneurs and support their participation in local markets. It will be managed by the Women Entrepreneurs Association formed by participants of the project.
Project UDAYA’s reach
Project UDAYA focuses on promoting entrepreneurship among women from SC/ST communities, Self Help Group (SHG) members and PwDs. The initiative supports enterprise creation and sustainable income generation.
According to Tata Communications, the project has expanded across Pune, Raigad and Ratnagiri districts in Maharashtra, covering 126 villages across 25 blocks, including remote and underserved areas.
The project has trained more than 1,650 women entrepreneurs and supported the establishment of over 950 women- and PwD-led micro-enterprises.
Products developed through the initiative include food processing items, handicrafts, textiles, wellness products, home décor and other locally made goods.
Products available at Udaya Bazaar
Udaya Bazaar offers locally manufactured products across categories such as food and snacks, handicrafts, textiles and apparel, wellness and personal care products, home décor items and lifestyle goods.
A Tata Communications spokesperson said the company’s community engagement programmes focus on strengthening economic participation through entrepreneurship and sustainable livelihoods. The spokesperson added that the company’s CSR initiatives impacted more than 11.2 lakh lives in FY26.
Dr. Prakash Solanki, Associate Professor and Project Director, EDII, said the store represents a step towards empowerment, inclusion and local economic growth, with products reflecting the work and aspirations of participating women entrepreneurs.
The initiative is intended to help participating women and PwDs move beyond entrepreneurship training and enterprise creation towards greater market participation and economic independence.
