Equitas Small Finance Bank Book Explores Governance, Trust and Values in Building Sustainable Organisations
Chennai: Equitas Small Finance Bank has launched When Organisations Win – Governance, Trust and the Values of Equitas Small Finance Bank, a book examining the role of governance, trust and organisational values in building sustainable and resilient organisations.
Authored by Dr CA Sangeeta Shankaran Sumesh, the book examines the governance journey of Equitas Small Finance Bank through conversations with P N Vasudevan, Managing Director and Founder, Equitas Small Finance Bank.
The book looks at governance beyond rules, regulations and compliance requirements. It examines how governance influences organisational thinking, behaviour and decision-making, particularly when organisations face difficult choices, competing priorities and changing risks.
Frames Approach to Governance
A key concept discussed in the book is the Frames Approach to Governance, through which Equitas views governance from multiple perspectives and develops action plans under different frames. The approach is presented as a dynamic governance model that can evolve with the organisation.
The book discusses areas including Board-management alignment, regulatory signals, communication with the Reserve Bank of India, learning from the mistakes of others, customer-centric governance, business models, credit risk, technology, operational controls, investor relationships, ethical leadership and social impact.

Speaking about the book, P N Vasudevan said governance is a continuous journey and that an organisation’s governance framework needs to evolve as the organisation changes. He said the Frames Approach has helped Equitas examine governance from multiple perspectives and continuously evaluate its practices.
The book also examines the question of what it means for an organisation to “win”. It considers whether organisational success should be measured only through growth, profitability and business performance, or whether it should also include trust, integrity, responsible leadership, customer interests and the creation of lasting value for society.
Dr CA Sangeeta Shankaran Sumesh, author of the book, said her interest in Equitas’ governance philosophy developed through interactions and observations of the organisation. She said the book explores governance not merely as rules and compliance, but as choices, values and behaviours, particularly when organisations choose to do what is right even when it may not be the easiest option.
The book uses the idea of “WOW” to describe organisations that create positive impact and earn the trust of their stakeholders through consistent governance, values and responsible leadership.
